The bird in the heading was a surprise visitor from South America, Chili to be exact and you can see that the journey was a difficult one by the feather damage on the wings.  It is an Inca Tern and I have been told that this is the first recorded visit to the Big Island.  I was also told that this is the first time it has been recorded north of the Equator.  I thought it was fitting to lead off this page of my wanderings around the world to capture bird pictures.  Every place is a long way from Hawaii, we are in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and so I have to fly thousands of miles just to get to birdy places where I can capture good photos.

The general purpose of this website is to allow visiting birders a head start in understanding the birds to be found on the Big Island.  The rest of the site is to share with other birders my experiences while visiting other areas that they too might be interested in seeing on their birding journeys.  This page will be a work in progress but also an exhibition allowing birders to better understand what they will be able to observe if they choose to go to the listed locations.  As many of you know, photographing birds takes time and patience with many obstacles to overcome to get the pictures you are about to look at.  My style is portraits and it my way of showing you how beautiful and interesting each and every bird is.  So I do hope you enjoy this section and will tell your friends so they can check it out too!

It starts out with trips from 2019, then you will notice a gap from when I was not able to travel much due to the Covid lockdown.  It picks back up again after the pandemic and will continue going forward.  My ability to obtain the pictures will show improvement as I have learned more about my cameras and improved my techniques.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact me and I will do my best to answer.   Mahalo!
